NWS and me

I grew up in tornado alley.  Being 5 and facing the only recorded double F5 tornado in history left a life long impression.  To say I am "weather minded" is an understatement!  I follow weather like some folks follow football or baseball.  Every day I check it first thing on my local NOAA page.  Do you have yours bookmarked?  Do you check yours?  Would you even know what the days weather is supposed to bring?

We do.  We keep a close eye out being homesteaders.  It effects a lot of what we do outside here.  This drought has impacted out area as one of the worst hit. It really hurts to see so many friends loosing their crops this year.  It puts a face on the bad numbers and brings it all to life.  If it wasn't for NOAA and their great sites, somedays we might have just driven into a tornado or two!

So when I saw they were launching a program "Weather Ready Nation", I had to go read about it.  It's a great idea to get the public a little more aware of their surroundings and what could happen weather wise.  Blizzards, ice storms, tornados, severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, etc...all a few of the nasty things they try to help us deal with.  I suggest reading up on this and maybe being smart and getting a ToGo bag ready just in case one day you have to leave your home due to severe weather.

Go here and read.  Get a plan ready and practice it.  Get a bag made up for every member of your family, including the fur-kids :)  They count too!

If just one person reads this and is helped ....I'll be forever grateful to the NWS.  Sometimes there are some .gov agencies that are good.  This is one of them.
